The Warrior is an ensemble devised piece created by the students of the Drama Extension Class at Samuel Whitbread Community College, Shefford.
The students have worked on this project with a director for approximately 12 weeks to devise an adaptation of the legend of Beowulf. The production is all the students own work, they have written the script, lyrics, musical sequences and visual elements, which supports the Extension Class ethos that they should be challenged by the complexity of the project.
The Warrior is composed of physical theatre, thus, allowing the performers to present an interpretation of the well known story. The piece itself follows a community that have been terrorised by a number of mythical monsters and call upon The Warrior to save them. The Warrior fights off numerous beasts until he is eventually slain. The performance promises to be a creative adaptation to continue the legend.
Extension Class consists of the school's gifted and talented students across the age range of 13-18 and come from a school that enjoys great success with Drama exam results at both GCSE and A Level.
The Extension Class has achieved enormous amounts over the years. We have in the past performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with an adaptation of Grimm's fairy tales, the Royal National Theatre in London, and last year have toured York and Cambridge with a street theatre piece about George and the Dragon. So this year is no surprise that we have gone back to our roots and performing locally once more. Not be missed!
